Professional Formation

Our three year course welcomes actors, dancers, circus artists and others who are interested in the world of the clown.

Some wish to become clowns, others come to discover the freedom they need on the stage.

The first two years
covers the essential basics and require considerable dedication and effort.

The third year, the "Creative Year" , is intended for those who have acquired a suitable level and who have decided to become clowns. This year will also complete students' creative writing skills.
This year's course takes place every other year.

Courses begin in October and finish in June

Registration for the year 2007-2008 are already open

Teaching the art of the clown ?

Some 'old dynosaurs' still pretend that the art of the clown cannot be taught ! They say that it just appears like a divine light. The creative act naturally takes its roots from solitude and self awareness. Nonetheless the set-backs, the try-outs, the advice, the meetings, which make up the core of Le Samovar teaching, quite naturally open up all sorts of artistic and human path. It is a creative school who develops the author who exists in every actor.

How we do it ?

Termly individual meetings for tracking students' progress.

Twice termly students appear before the entire teaching body. The purpose being to discover each student's attitude and motivations when away from the classes ; his/her capacity to work alone ; his/her reactions concerning stage fright . . .

An oral exam in September settles admission into the 2nd and 3rd years : each student presents the requested work achieved during the summer (videos, photos, music, a success in circus technique, dramaturgic analysis (backed by a film) comic scenarios, written work).

Lectures with the presence of the public

Five to six times a year, teachers give lectures to which the public is invited (entitled Public Lectures).

At the end of the year, all students present their year's work during an evening show.

2nd and 3rd year students present a cabaret show on six consecutive evenings.

Students also participate as curtain raisers to the Clowns, Burlesques and Eccentrics festivals : the students show their works They participate in the musical welcome which start the beginning of the shows.
